SHOCKER! Man Utd legend Neville admits: I was WRONG about David Luiz
Manchester United legend Gary Neville admits he was WRONG in mocking Chelsea’s re-signing of David Luiz.
The Brazilian made a shock switch back to Chelsea this summer – two years after they sold him to Paris St-Germain.
Neville selected Luiz as one of six Chelsea players in his team of the season so far alongside Thibaut Courtois, Cesar Azpilicueta, Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Diego Costa.
And Neville said: “My team is dominated by Chelsea – with three out the back five.
“The system suits David Luiz. I talked about him being cuddled by the goalkeeper, by Azpilicueta and Cahilll, by Kante and Matic in front.
“But also his decision has been far better.
“He’s not as rash and he’s still got a fantastic pass.
“He’s dominant in the air and he can still go forward knowing he’s got the defenders behind him to be able to sit in.
“For me, when I’ve watched him this season, I thought at City away he was outstanding in terms of clearing his lines at the near post when crosses were coming in the box.
“Chelsea’s record with him in the team is fantastic.
“I didn’t see it as a fit at all when they signed him. I thought he wouldn’t fit with Antonio Conte at all.
“But he’s been outstanding, he looks more mature, he’s not getting all distracted in the sideshow stuff that he did before on the pitch.
“He looks to me like he has a real good focus.
“Last time there were huge doubts about him and to be honest he’s now a key part of the spine of Chelsea.”
